jazzanova lands on wurst! early dj support comes from soul clap, radio slave, dimitri from paris, ewan pearson, sebo k, rob mello and slow hands. weve done the unthinkable, scored the unimaginable, and wrangled none other than jazzanova (!) for an über-limited one-sided vinyl-only release. while >i can see< feat ben westbeech came out a few years back, filippo moscatellos most excellent disco version never saw the light of day - until now, of course. doesnt much more sunshine-filled and soul-drenched than this stellar take on the esteemed berlin collectives original, and we are both honored and humbled to get to work with both jazzanova and their label sonar kollektiv, and of course filippo himself, on this very special release. filippo moscatello started to produce music in 1994 under the dj naughty moniker, and has since gone on to work with labels like gigolo, eskimo, and moodmusic to name but a few, releasing the artist albums disco volante (gigolo) and pagliaccio (moodmusic), as well as the acclaimed compilation, one naughty night in berlin (eskimo). in addition to his production work, filippo maintains a club residency at cookies in berlin called luv dancin where hes played along special guests like moodymann, jerome sydenham, ata, bottin and loud e.

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.

new year deal - purveyors of maximal minimalism in bass music, crushington explore the mid-tempo soundworld of dubstep. inspired to step outside of their box by a face-melting new years eve performance from skream and benga, for the last two years, crushington have sonically sculpted their own, well-received take on dubstep. lacking a developed knowledge of the genre, their unaffected explorations into different tempos and grooves have caught ears everywhere, leading to dj support from n-type, jakes, emalkay, distance, seven, truth, bulletproof, datsick, excision, hatcha and headhunter. along the way, they have collaborated with, or remixed for black sun empire, spl, truth, optimus gryme and bulletproof. with high profile support and collaborations boiling over left right and centre and several boutique vinyl releases to their credit, dj bookings across new zealand and australia have come quickly and to lauded receptions. old school producers and djs from the era of vinyl and by ear engineering, their sonic fidelity has seen their crushington tunes described by the likes of antiserum as the perfect studio mixdown reference. to put it in simpler terms, crushingtons subwoofer rupturing arrangements are fast becoming a standard setter with in the international dubstep community, where things go next from here though, only time will tell.

mr raoul k and baobab secret take the next step and put out new remixes of >le karantkatrieme peul<. prisme are a belgian duo (nicolas pepinster and yves theys) who started to produce their own material in 2010. they liked the title track so much that they remixed it and sent the result to mr raoul k who instantly fell in love with the melodic and laid back approach they took on it. this lush piece makes a perfect entry into a long night out, promising that every piece will fall into place. the other production crew featured on this release are the iklawa brothers (mzwandile nxasana and sandile magwaza) who run their own label in durban, south africa. they are big fans of mr raoul ks work and have been dropping his tunes in their sets on a regular basis. their remix is a dark, afrobeat driven tune that takes the listener on a long trip into a gloomy world full of surprising musical twists, dramatic changes of mood and impressing string sounds. the last remix is done by mr raoul k himself. he shows a new side of his musical skills. resulting in an epic track that seems to dance on tiptoes around a giant beast. one small step. hesitate. check carefully what happens. do not disturb. just watch in astonishment how it slowly awakes and stretches out to its full glory. a track that is full of hope, but reminds us to keep our feet to the ground to provide a solid stand.

the -my initial grooves- ep is shane linehan s debut wax cut on his own -basic groove recordings- imprint. here he offers two dancefloor tracks which both take influence from early us vibes. -hidden harmony- pays homage to the new york sound, with rough scattered beats and moving chords. -make it a ritual- boasts raw, basic drums. this track is a slightly darker number, with a deep, tracky groove.

a side >under< from evol intent featuring vocals from singer/song writer jackie b. this dubstep track is dark, sexy, melodic, and poppy, with a bass riff and drums that encourages you to urgently to hit the dance floor, and shake your ass. the vocals are sexy and consistent. she reminds me of esthero in how she can make underground production sound so polished. yet she can take you places emotionally because she makes intelligent choices her vocal tonality. the production is dark, and sounds like a eerie episode of a twin peaks score. you will be hearing lots more music from her really soon. she is also a great producer as well. for this release kurbits is happy to announce a new artist for the label – laurentiu suciu – aka. faster. laurentiu has been around on the romanian scene for a couple of years and has earned himself a large number of fans throughout the country. under the name faster, laurentiu has already released a couple of remixes and tracks on various digital labels such as the digital divisions of air drop records and cray1 labworks. whereas his previous releases has been more of straight up house affairs, this release sees laurentiu going for the more minimal and hypnotic shades of dance music. on the a-side we have omego, a track with instant hypnotic qualities. the rolling bass line and the atmospheric pads make the track a perfect choice for those in between moments when you are about to take your set from one direction to another. on the flip we have rost, a rhythmic skeleton based around a simple groove and a little hint of melody. the track might not have the ingredients of a chart buster, but we can assure you that it has all the ingredients of what we call a perfect tool. we sincerely hope youll have as much pleasure with these tracks as we are. well be back soon with new and exciting rhythms. happy mixing!

one of vahagns best friends (tiago from dfa, clearmont 56, golf channel, etc), has a residency at lisbons top club lux called trust. after attending one of these trust nights, this lisbon-based armenian musician arrived in his studio right after the club night and wrote the original material for this record in the course of a few hours. the result was so special, that soon groovement had it signed upon hearing, and contacted tiago to be the remixer for the track dedicated to him. a record with a story like this is bound to be good!

silicone souls darkroom dubs label has pulled off quite a coup with their latest release. taking a retrospective look through the labels archive, the duo approached some of their favourite producers, asking them to rework and give their own take some of the music from previous releases... and boy are we in for a treat! the coup in question was the securing of the talents of a certain mr robag wruhme. currently enjoying the acclaim generated from his exquisite long player, >thora vukk< (pampa), wruhme has kindly turned his attention to remixing extrawelts >neuland< for darkroom dubs. the lead track from their 2010 >neuland< marked a key moment for the label, as silicone soul celebrated the signing of an act that they had admired for many years. robag provides not one, but two reworks of the stunning original, each as impressive and moving as the other. the second rework sees john selway turning filippo mancinelli & allen mays >the hills< on its head. the deepness of the 2009 original, is still in evidence as the atmospheric sounds sweep within selways wonderfully driving tech reconstruction.

max essa returns to feel music! its almost impossible to convey the scope of >iberia sequences< in a 45 second clip, so you gotta take our word for it, 10 minutes of pure bliss, the definition of a musical journey. on the flip side >islands< mixes 80s club sounds with a touch of classic house and of course that by now classic max essa feel, while mr. fabrizio mammarella on remix duties takes the a side up a notch with some acid disco dancefloor action. summer starts here!
